Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in competitions organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after his action was found to be illegal at independent testing at Loughborough University conducted earlier this month.

Shakib's action was questioned by the umpires when he played for Surrey in the County Championship. In order to overturn the suspension, he will have to pass an independent reassessment of his action which means his degree of elbow extension will have to be below 15 degrees according to the regulations.

The suspension is dated from December 10, when ECB received Shakib's suspension order from Loughborough University. In the match for Surrey, Shakib claimed nine wickets in Taunton in September being his first appearance in County Cricket since 2010-11.

In recent times, Shakib's career has been loaded with controversies about his role as a Member of Parliament in the now-turned-Awami League Government in Bangladesh following protests in which many civilians were killed in July- August.

He announced his retirement from T20Is and withdrew from travelling to Bangladesh which would have been his farewell Test in Mirpur in October due to the protests for and against him were staged in Dhaka. Shakib Al Hasan has not played any international match since the whole incident.
