5 Reasons why selectors made a right choice by dropping Rishabh Pant
The selection panel has dropped some good players, and one of them is Rishabh Pant but there are some reasons which justify the action.
4) Doubtful if he can play as a proper batsman
For most part of Pant’s career, he has played all his matches as a keeper-batsman which requires a completely different mindset. When he played for India at No.4 his tactics remained the same, where he tried to play attacking shots from the word go, without accessing the pitch and team situation which is not a quality of a proper batsman.
A batsman will have to curb his instincts in England, as there will be movement on helpful pitches, and that time his defensive skill-sets will be put to test, and till now Pant’s defensive technique is not up to the mark. In his ODI career, Pant has always thrown away his wicket in search of quick runs. Pant is a free-flowing player, but a middle-order batsman has to play according to the team’s needs which he has not done in white ball cricket. As Dhoni will remain behind the stumps for the WC, the other keeper-batsman in the squad will have to be athletic in the field and that’s where Pant falls short in front of Karthik, as he is an excellent ground fielder.
