The incident between Shakoor Rana and Mike Gatting at Faisalabad is considered to be one of the dirtiest moments in the sport ever. The incident occurred on the second day of the Test after Gatting was considered by Rana to have made an alteration to the fielding positions as Eddie Hemmings ran into a bowl – Rana stopped the game and accused Gatting of cheating.

The two men had a go at each other when there were reports about them using foul language at each other. Moreover, the match was stopped when Rana refused to stand as the umpire until Gatting issued an apology.

Gatting was threatened with being stripped of the England captaincy and was forced into issuing a written apology to Rana. Gatting has since expressed regret at his part in the row.
