Many great captains have toured Australia and failed to add victories in the longer format under their belt. MS Dhoni wasn’t any different as India lost four of the five Test matches under his captaincy that they played down under. However, he didn’t let the Aussies take anything under his regime whenever they toured India. He was one of the reasons why Australia failed to win a Test in India between 2004 and 2017. Dhoni led India in eight of the ten Tests Australia played in India between 2008 and 2013.

Anil Kumble was the skipper in the two drawn Tests in 2008 that also were his final two matches in International cricket. India won the remaining two Tests in that series to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-0. Later in 2010, India won the 2-match Test series by 2-0 and the 4-match series in 2013 by 4-0. The eight matches are the most any captain has led an opponent at home with a 100% win record in Test cricket. Michael Vaughan has 100% win record against Windies in the seven home Tests.
