Twitter Reactions: Yuzvendra Chahal becomes most expensive spinner in IPL history with INR 18 crore PBKS deal
RCB entered the bid at INR 14.25 crore but pulled out immediately.
Yuzvendra Chahal became the third player to have been acquired by the Punjab Kings during the ongoing mega auction for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. With a base price of INR 2 crore, it was the Gujarat Titans who initiated the bidding with the Chennai Super Kings wasting no time. The Kings came in at INR 6 crore.
After a couple of further bids, the Titans backed out. It was then an raucous back-and-forth by the Lucknow Super Giants and PBKS up until PBKS raised their bid to INR 14 crore. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, whom Chahal had represented for seven seasons, came in with their sole bid of INR 14.25 crore.
From that moment onward, it was a combat between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and PBKS. Ultimately, it was PBKS who secured Chahal's services for INR 18 crore, making him the most expensive spinner in the history of the IPL up until the present moment.
Chahal is set to be one of the key players for PBKS, who surely seem to have one eye to become a title-contender this year. Ahead of the mega auction, they were the franchise which had the most purse remaining, and seem to have a thought-through strategy when it comes to building their squad.
A brave leg-spinner in the mold of Chahal is set to bolster the bowling lineup which PBKS have intended to pursue. The leading wicket-taker in the marquee league will be looking to get going and collaborate with Ricky Ponting & Co.
