Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured the return of their star all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for a staggering INR 23.75 crore during the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction.

The Madhya Pradesh all-rounder, who entered the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore under the all-rounder one category, triggered an intense three-way battle between KKR, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Iyer's stint with KKR has been nothing short of brilliance. Since his IPL debut in 2021, he has been a key in the team's success, most notably contributing to their title victory in 2024.

He has managed to score 1,326 runs across 50 matches with a strike rate of 137.13, including one century and eleven half-centuries. The 2024 season proved particularly significant for both Iyer and KKR, as he scored 370 runs with four half-centuries, playing a crucial role in the team's championship victory after a decade-long wait.

The bidding war saw LSG initially competing against KKR before bowing out at INR 6 crore. RCB's entry into the fray pushed the price past INR 12 crore, and the intense back-and-forth continued as the bid soared past INR 20 crore. Until KKR secured their prized all-rounder at INR 23.75 crore. Meanwhile, this was Kolkata's first buy of the night and has a remaining purse of INR 27.25 Crore.
