5 Venues that could become permanent Test centres in India
Virat Kohli wants India to have a set of Test venues where teams will know where they are playing.
4. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is one of the popular venues across India. It has a capacity to host a crowd of about 40,000 and is often jam-packed for most international games. It has hosted quite a few international games in the recent past.
The historic India-Afghanistan Test match was also played here while India’s terrific turnaround in the 2017 Test series against Australia started at this venue. Moreover, Rohit Sharma scores his first ODI double ton in 2013 at this ground. Hence, the Chinnaswamy Stadium has provided the best facilities to fans and also, the players.
The ground has a sub-air system which soaks in the rainwater and dries up the outfield very quickly. Hence, play can restart after rain in no time which makes a big difference. Also, the crowd turnout is very good and the support that the Indian team gets is massive. The Vijay Hazare Trophy final this year saw a crowd of 4000 which is massive for a domestic game. Hence, the Chinnaswamy Stadium could well be one of the big crowd pullers even in Test cricket.
