Natwest Series Final: 69 v England: The score might not seem to be a big one, but the stage was the biggest for a young Yuvraj Singh. India had a stiff task ahead of them as the English team posted 325 riding on centuries from Nasser Hussain and Marcus Trescothick. India were stuttering at 146/5 by the end of 24 overs when Mohammad Kaif joined Yuvraj at the crease. The pair initially stabilised the innings and later scored at a brisk rate. They shared a partnership of 121 runs for the 6th wicket which came to an end when Yuvraj was dismissed for 69 (63 balls) as he top-edged a sweep shot in the 42nd over off the bowling of Paul Collingwood giving a simple catch to Alex Tudor at short fine leg. Highest score in Tests: 169 v Pakistan: Yuvraj Singh scored 3 Test centuries and all of these came against Pakistan. While his first two centuries were for a losing cause, the third one came in a drawn game against Pakistan at Bengaluru in 2007. Batting with a struggling back at Rajkot: In the first ODI against England at Rajkot in 2008, Yuvraj showed his endurance by scoring an unbeaten 138 despite struggling with his back. He was seen batting with a belt wrapped on his back to aid support and needed a runner eventually. He hit 138 not out from 78 balls hitting 16 fours and 6 sixes, taking 64 balls to reach his century which at the time was the second fastest by an Indian in ODIs after Mohammad Azharuddin’s century in 1988 against New Zealand that came off 62 balls. After reaching 50 from 42 balls, he added 88 in the next 36 balls. He did so despite straining his back, which necessitated the use of Gautam Gambhir as a runner. 4. Partnership With Sachin Tendulkar against England in 2008: In the first Test against England in 2008 at Chennai, Yuvraj partnered with Sachin Tendulkar to take India home with a mammoth run chase. Having been bowled out for 241 in the first innings in response to England’s 316, India needed 387 for the win in the 2nd innings. Yuvraj scored 85 not out, put on an unbroken partnership of 163 with Sachin Tendulkar to defeat England. It was the fourth highest successful run chase in history and the highest in India. On 19 September 2007 against England in the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 Super 8 match held at Kingsmead in Durban, he hit 6 sixes in an over off Stuart Broad. This helped him to reach the fastest fifty ever in a T20 match, off just 12 balls and also the fastest in any form of international cricket. He was rewarded with the Man of the Match award for his performance. Yuvraj came in to bat when Gautam Gambhir was dismissed for 24 and India were on 41/2 in 8 overs. He struck five monster sixes and 5 boundaries. By the time he was dismissed, India’s scorecard read 155/4 in 17.3 overs. The Aussies receive it again in 2011: In the World Cup 2011 quarter-final against Australia at Ahmedabad, Yuvraj struck an unbeaten 57 of 65 balls to take India to the semi-finals. He hit 8 boundaries in his innings. Earlier in the match, he picked two crucial wickets of Brad Haddin and Michael Clarke and ended with figures of 2/44.
