A PIL submitted at the Bombay High Courts for foreign players to be kept in complete isolation during IPL 2020

The Coronavirus has sent alarm bells ringing in the minds of people all over the globe. Mass gatherings have been told to avoid while more significant ones have been called off. The persistent attempts and warnings from the World Health Organisation (WHO) has now reached its ultimate. Many sporting events have been cancelled while others have sorted to closed-door policy.

Among all this, the cricket in India has also taken a hit. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 which was scheduled to begin on March 29 has now been delayed. The IPL governing council under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced that it has suspended the start of the league until April 15. The decision on the start of the 13th edition will be taken soon.

Two businessmen filed the PIL keeping in mind public safety

In the middle of all this, a civil Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed at the Bombay High Court. According to the petition filed by two businessmen, it should be made sure that all the players who will come from abroad must be kept in isolation to avoid the contamination. This PIL also mentions that similar to be repeated with the overseas coaching staff.

According to the India Today report, the PIL was filed by Ram Nandlal Wadhwa and Jitendra Baharani of Ulhasnagar on Friday. The two businessmen were apparently heavily concerned regarding public safety during the time of the tournament which invites the participation of the players from across the globe. It has also been stated that the duo didn’t have tickets for any match but they are doing out of concern for the general public.

In addition to this, the PIL also stated that proper safety measures should be taken. The litigation said that the crowds should wear masks and players should not shake hands and avoid contact. Additionally, it also appealed to have a medical team for checking each person before leaving the stadium.

Another PIL was filed which had the appeal of cancellation or postponement of the league. Other than this, a few more PILs related to coronavirus were submitted at the Bombay High Court. As the update suggests, there are many such PILs ready to read out the court and the proceedings will be carried out during the upcoming days.
