Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman has decided to hang his boots from international cricket with immediate effect. He last played for his country back in 2014 against Sri Lanka in Tests and is still remembered for his heroics in the 2012 series against England. Pakistan had whitewashed the world number 1 team then in the whites and Rehman had scalped 19 wickets in the three-match series.

The 38-year-old made his international debut in 2006 against the Windies in Faisalabad and went on to play 31 ODIs for his country until 2014. He scalped 30 wickets at a miserly economy of 4.21 but Rehman made it big in the longest format. He has 99 wickets to his name at an average of 29.39 in just 22 Test matches and has a couple of five-wicket hauls to his name along with eight four-fers.

Will continue playing the domestic cricket

Abdur Rehman will continue playing in the domestic arena according to Cricbuzz where he represents Habib Bank and has been amongst the wickets this season. A start-stop career never allowed the cricketer to settle into the national side and had to wait for close to three years after making a sensational debut with twin four-wicket hauls in his debut series.

He also played in the 2011 World Cup for Pakistan and performed efficiently before being dropped for the knockout matches. Stiff competition for the spinners’ slot in the Pakistan team kept Rehman on the sidelines since 2014 and finally, it seems that he has given up the hope of donning the jersey for his country.

Though he remains a giant in the domestic with over 900 scalps to his name. Rehman has played 179 first-class matches so far picking 640 wickets with 26 five-wicket hauls and ten 10-wicket hauls in the match. As far as the limited-overs format is concerned, the 38-year-old has played 169 games to scalp 237 wickets and will hope to continue shining for his team.
