Adil Rashid donates relief packages for earthquake victims in PoK's Mirpur region
"I have a special affection for Mirpur because my parents were born here," he said while speaking to the media.
England spinner Adil Rashid donated relief packages for the earthquakes victims in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir’s Mirpur region on Tuesday. The earthquake of magnitude 5.8 Richter scale had hit the PoK Mirpur region recently in which reportedly 37 people lost their lives and almost 500 people were injured. The England cricketer visited the affected areas and donated the packages.
Rashid hasn’t played a game at any level since the 2019 World Cup this year which England won on boundary count against New Zealand in the final. The leggie was one of the vital cogs in the team’s triumph. But he was ruled out of the action soon after due to the shoulder injury with which Rashid played during the World Cup. He is now fully fit and is expected to return to the field soon.
I have a special affection for Mirpur
Though he is playing for England in international cricket, Adil Rashid is from Pakistan origin and his parents were born in Mirpur which has led to him helping the people in the region. He was pictured donating the relief packages himself on Tuesday and was also seen speaking to the people with affection.
“I have a special affection for Mirpur because my parents were born here and I am in Pakistan for the people who are in desperate need of help,” Rashid was quoted as saying by Times Now after donating the relief material.
As far as Adil Rashid’s return to playing for England is concerned, he will soon take the field during the upcoming New Zealand tour. The Brits are scheduled to play five T20 Internationals and a couple of Tests against the Kiwis. The leg-spinner has been included in the T20I side but has not been named in the Test team which has left his career in whites at the crossroads.
Recently during an interview, Rashid himself cleared that he would be shifting his focus to the limited-overs to prolong his overall career in case he’s not included in the Test side in the near future. With Jack Leach‘s rising stocks in the whites, it looks tough for him to break into the Test team as of now.
