After KKR, CSK is the most secure franchise I’ve played for: Robin Uthappa
After playing the match-winning knock for CSK in the Qualifier 1, Uthappa had words of praises for KKR and Gautam Gambhir as well.
Robin Uthappa, on Sunday, said he’s felt very secure while playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Uthappa had to warm the bench for CSK due to the presence of several established stars. But once he got into the playing eleven, he grabbed the chances with both hands. On October 10, he brought all his experience to the fore against the Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 1.
He scored a 44-ball 63 with seven fours and two sixes, helping his team qualify for the final to take place on October 15. Apart from lauding CSK, Uthappa also had words of praises for Kolkata Knight Riders where he plied his trade from 2014 to 2019 under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. Uthappa said that he enjoyed his stint while being with the Knights.
I really enjoyed myself at KKR, says Gautam Gambhir
“I always maintain that this has been one of the most secure franchises going around and everyone feel secure within the group and I think that only makes a player only give that much more to the franchise,” Uthappa was quoted as saying after the match.
“After KKR, when Gauti was the captain, I really enjoyed myself there and felt really secure in that group but after that this is the most secure, I’ve felt while playing cricket in a while,” he stated.
In 2014, Uthappa also won the Orange Cap as Gambhir and Co. lifted the IPL trophy for the second time. In that season, Uthappa scored 660 runs at an average of 44 with five half-centuries.
As far as the knock against DC was concerned, he dedicated it to his son Neale Nolan Uthappa on the latter’s fourth birthday.
“Happy that I was able to contribute. Today is my son’s birthday and this one’s for him. When I went out to bat, we knew we needed a good start, so I just tried to react to the ball and play according to the merit,” Uthappa added.
In the Qualifier 1, CSK beat DC by four wickets with two balls left. Ruturaj Gaikwad got the Player of the Match award for scoring 70 off 50 with five fours and two sixes.
