Pakistan’s out of touch opener Ahmed Shehzad trashed the reports that he left the national T20 camp because he was dejected for not being considered for the T20 match against England on September 7.

He admitted that he was disappointed for not being selected but the reason for him leaving the camp was because of a back strain he suffered during the event. “Obviously, I remain disappointed that I am not in the Pakistan squad but the reason for me leaving the national T20 was a back strain that I suffered during the event,” Shehzad said on Monday.

“The back strain was the reason I couldn’t carry on any longer in the national event where I was leading the Lahore team,” added the 24-year old.

Shehzad, who hasn’t featured for Pakistan since the World T20 in India this year, said that he had informed the Lahore team management about his fitness issue before leaving.

“Having played for Pakistan every time I can’t make the squad I am disappointed as every professional player should be. But to say I left the national T20 because of this is not unfair and false,” he claimed.

He along with Umar Akmal was dropped by the national selectors since World T20 with Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector saying that they were dropped on the basis of disciplinary grounds. However, both of them had apologized to the cricket board and insisted that they are ready to follow any reformation by the PCB as they wanted to be considered for the national selection.

Despite Shehzad struggling to find his form, Umar Akmal has been in top-notch in T20 leagues all around the world making his case for a recall.
