Akeal Hossain bowls the most bizarre over in CPL history
Barbados spinner Akeal Hossain was handed over the ball by skipper Keiron Pollard who did not see what was coming.
The Carribean Premier League (CPL) witnessed the most bizarre over in its history as the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots locked horns with the Barbados Tridents. It was match number 16 in the tournament and the incident took place in the first over of the Patriots innings. Barbados spinner Akeal Hossain was handed over the ball by skipper Keiron Pollard who did not see what was coming.
The over:
As the destructive Chris Gayle took the strike for the Nevis Patriots, Akeal Hossain bowled the first delivery which turned out to be a leg side wide. Well, if you do not see anything wrong in that, you will see in the next few deliveries. Quite interestingly Akeal Hossain bowled not one but four similar leg side wides in the next few deliveries which left everyone surprised including batsman Chris Gayle.
In his sixth attempt, the bowler bowled a delivery in line which was a dot ball. The next three deliveries were singles as Gayle and opener, Evin Lewis rotated the strike between themselves. However, Lewis hammered the 5th legit delivery of the over for a massive six over long on. Lewis has been in terrific form in the tournament and he just gave us another example of it with that shot. The last ball was another wide one from Hossain but Lewis decided to throw his bat at this one. However, the ball went high up in the air as his attempt to hit another monster failed miserably leading to a simple catch.
It was a massive 11 ball over which turned out to be fruitful at the end for the Barbados Tridents. The St.Kitts and Nevis Patriots emerged victoriously in the rain depleted match thanks to skipper Gayle. Here is how the over went:
Ball 1: 0.1 – Wide
Ball 2: 0.1 – Wide
Ball 3: 0.1 – Wide
Ball 4: 0.1 – Wide
Ball 5: 0.1 – Wide
Ball 6: 0.1 – Dot ball
Ball 7: 0.2 – Single
Ball 8: 0.3 – Single
Ball 9: 0.4 – Single
Ball 10: 0.5 – SIX from Evin Lewis
