Amidst some altercation, Mitchell Marsh comes with a light-hearted moment in Perth
Marsh isn't playing the ongoing Perth Test.
The pitch in Perth in the ongoing Test between Australia and India is turning out to be venomous as the match is progressing. Even as some deliveries have bounced prodigiously, a few of them haven’t got off the surface at all. In between some hard-fought cricket, the encounter has also been a witness to some on-field controversies and a few banter between the players as well.
Indian captain Virat Kohli has been seen trying to ruffle the feathers of the opponents, especially Aussie captain Tim Paine. Rishabh Pant, the Indian wicketkeeper, hasn’t been far either. In the meantime, there has been a light-hearted moment after the conclusion of the hosts’ second innings involving the 12th man and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who isn’t playing the ongoing encounter.
Marsh came to the field and funnily handed his cap over to umpire Chris Gaffaney, and mentioned that he wanted to bowl from ‘over-the-wicket’. It’s a thing every other bowler does, albeit some of them prefers to bowl with their caps on. However, on realising that Marsh isn’t a part of the playing eleven, the on-field umpire returned the cap to the Western Australian cricketer.

Tough times for Marsh
Marsh has played 30 Tests in which he has scored 1200 runs with a couple of centuries and three fifties. Moreover, he also has picked up 35 wickets in the format. Nevertheless, he hasn’t been able to impress the selectors much in recent times. Previously, he played the two-match Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and flattered to deceive.
He could score only 30 runs in four innings at an average of 7.50. Moreover, he only managed to get a couple of wickets in the series. Subsequently, he was dropped from the opening Test against India at the renowned Adelaide Oval, which the visitors won by 31 runs. To add to his despair, he didn’t even play the second contest at the new Perth Stadium.
