Angelo Mathews all set to make a comeback for the Delhi Daredevils
With both Mathews and Iyer back into the side, the Daredevils will hope these two put up a good display of batting for the team.
The Delhi Daredevils will be boosted with Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews and young Shreyas Iyer all set to make a comeback to the side. Things indeed seem to get better for the Delhi Daredevils following their thumping victory over the Rising Pune Supergiant.
With a disappointing string of seasons, the Delhi Daredevils suffered a set of major blows before hitting the 10th season of the IPL. Some of the side’s most valuable players, such as Quinton de Kock, Angelo Mathews and Shreyas Iyers were ruled out for part or the entirety of the tournament. Delhi began their IPL campaign with a depleted side and got off to a poor start in this edition of the tournament.
Nevertheless, with Angelo Mathews back into the squad, the Daredevils have the Sri Lankan at their disposal for their next match against Kings XI Punjab.
Mathews was earlier thought to have been unavailable for a major part of the tournament due to a hamstring injury and a calf strain. The Sri Lanka skipper was forced to sit out during the ODI and T20I series against Bangladesh at home.
However, Angelo Mathews joined DD for a nets session and was watched closely by coach Rahul Dravid. The Sri Lankan might well go on to replace New Zealands’s Corey Anderson in the Daredevils’ clash against the Kings XI Punjab.
On the other hand, Delhi’s attacking opener Shreyas Iyer will also make a comeback following a bout of chicken pox. Iyer has been declared fit and will add strength to the Daredevils’ top order.
The Delhi Daredevils will be playing their first home fixture of the season, and will take on the Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla. In their first game against RCB, the Daredevils let it slip away. Zaheer Khan’s side however came back strong with a clinical performance against the Rising Pune Supergiant. A Sanju Samson special set up a comfortable victory for DD.
With both Mathews and Iyer back into the side, the Daredevils will hope these two put up a good display of batting for the team.
