Team India head coach Anil Kumble has reportedly advised Wriddhiman Saha to take rest. India found a very good replacement for MS Dhoni in Test cricket in Saha. With a heavy home season coming up, Saha has been advised to take rest for a couple of weeks. Saha was named in the Bengal squad for the Ranji Trophy.

However, he will now be missing two matches of the fixtures and rest instead. He did not feature in the match against Uttar Pradesh that started yesterday. Saha is set to miss the next match against Punjab as well that starts on October 20. However, he will be a part of the Bengal team that takes on Railways on October 27. The match will serve as a practice game for Saha before the crucial England series comes up. England will play 5 Tests against India in the coming month.

Saha, who is turning 32 in a few days, will be requiring adequate rest before gearing up for international fixtures. Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary confirmed the news ahead of their clash against Uttar Pradesh. He quoted that he received a message about Anil Kumble asking Wriddhiman Saha to rest. India recently whitewashed New Zealand and have played back-to-back Tests in the Caribbean and at home.

“I have been informed that chief coach Anil Kumble has advised Wriddhiman to take rest after three back-to-back Test matches. He is not expected to play in the first two Ranji Trophy games for Bengal,” quoted Manoj Tiwary.

Tiwary further cited that Saha has a lot of workload to deal with. Hence the rest is only a due that he should get. “He has had a lot of workload and with the England Test matches coming up, it is only fair that he gets adequate rest,” added Tiwary.

Saha had a memorable Test at Kolkata against the black caps. Saha’s extraordinary efforts of scoring twin fifties was key to India’s success in the 2nd Test. Saha batted sensibly and batted with the tail to show great character. Saha scored unbeaten scores of 54 and 58 that earned him the Man of the Match in the Kolkata Test against New Zealand.
