Team India head coach and former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble has brought an end to all the speculations of him becoming the first ever Team India Director. Many news websites had reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling over a few changes to be incorporated in the work structure. One among such changes was to follow the English team-like structure of having a team director. Currently, Andrew Strauss is the team director of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Thus there were news about Anil Kumble being appointed as the first ever person to take up the role. Also, there were further stories of former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid replacing Kumble as the head coach after Kumble would take up the director’s position. Now, in a recent press conference, the team India head coach has quashed all such news saying that he has not received any official word on the same yet.

He ruled out the talks of becoming the director as he noted that all such news came to him from the media and not from the official members of the board. In the pre-match press conference, Anil Kumble was heard quoting, “Heard it from the media. No one has spoken about it”.

Furthermore, one of the members of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), Diana Edulji, had also ruled out the claims of Rahul Dravid being appointed as the next Indian coach. Currently, Dravid is associated with the colts of the Indian team and India A side in the capacity of coach and mentor.

Kumble, on the other hand, is with team India that is preparing for the ongoing Australia Test series. The series stands leveled at 1-1 with two more Tests to play. The third Test begins on March 15 at Ranchi.
