As per Zaheer Khan, an in-form Indian could miss the Brisbane T20I
"It’s pretty hard otherwise."
Ace Indian batsman Rohit Sharma is very busy nowadays. He is not only scoring tons of runs for India but also chipping in as the team’s skipper whenever regular captain Virat Kohli is not around. Sharma will be featuring in the Indian squads in all three formats in Australia in the upcoming tour and the busy schedule might take a toll on him by the time the Men in Blue take on the Aussies in the first international game of the tour on November 21.
Rohit will be flying to New Zealand after the final T20I against the Windies on Sunday as part of the India ‘A’ squad and play the first four-day game against New Zealand ‘A’ starting November 16. The game is crucial for Rohit for his performance will be a key yardstick in judging whether he gets to play in the four-Test series against Australia starting December 6. Rohit is captaining India in the current T20I series against Windies which the home side has won.
The Mumbai batsman’s participation in the four-day match will mean he has just a day off before India take the field for the first T20I at the Gabba, Brisbane. As per former Indian speedster Zaheer Khan, Rohit’s busy schedule could see him miss the Brisbane match for the travel from New Zealand to Australia could be tiring.
The travel could take a toll on Rohit
“He might miss is a T20I. Ya. It’s pretty hard otherwise. The travel does make you tired and takes that energy out. And also the game is not played in Australia, which is very tough to get your head around what exactly is the thought process behind it,” Cricbuzz quoted Zaheer as saying.
Rohit recently became the first batsman to hit four hundreds in T20Is. He also has three double hundreds in ODIs, feats that assert how much impact he has had as a batsman in limited-overs cricket. In Tests, however, Rohit has been a pale show in comparison as he averages below 40 even though he slammed a ton in debut Test and followed it up with another three-figure score in the next match.
Members of the India ‘A’ squad that also features some other top Indian players have already left for New Zealand along with coach Rahul Dravid.
