Ashes 2021-22: David Warner spotted in excruciating pain as he sneezes amid rib injury
Despite the injury, Warner scored 95 in the Adelaide Test.
Veteran Australian batter David Warner was all but likely to miss the ongoing second Ashes Test due to a rib injury. However, the southpaw just didn’t take the field but also made his bat talk. The swashbuckling opener tackled the pink ball with precision and played shots all over the Adelaide Oval. He even looked all set to register his 25th Test ton.
Unfortunately for the home team, the left-handed batter fell prey to Ben Stokes while batting at 95. The 34-year-old might not have reached the three-figure but earned praises from different corners for playing a sublime knock despite a rib injury. For the unversed, the batter sustained a nasty blow on the rib cage from Ben Stokes during the first Test and didn’t come out to bat in Australia’s second innings.

While Warner managed to feature in the second game, the pain in the ribs didn’t even allow him to breathe freely. Meanwhile, the veteran was spotted in excruciating pain as he sneezed in the dug-out. The southpaw was watching the proceedings of the Adelaide Test alongside Steve Smith and head coach Justin Langer. He felt the pangs of pain as he sneezed and his entire body went back. The video of the game has now gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Warner had revealed that he was on injections and pain killers before the start of the game. “I did have a local (anesthetic) this morning just before I went out to bat. It probably hurt more than what the ribs are at the moment,” Warner said after scoring 95 in the Day-Night Test.
“I was in a fair bit of pain and agony and being able to pick up the kids which is a bit tough but from that perspective I’ve just been icing and doing as much as I can to get ready,” he added. Warner even said he’s available for selection as long as he has legs.
“I was pretty close (to missing out) but unless I’ve got no leg I’m not going not to walk out on the field. I probably showed that last year. You don’t want to miss a Test match for your country and if I can get out on the park I’ll do everything to do that,” he added.
