Ashwin is a leader, he will prove a point: VVS Laxman
Ravichandran Ashwin is currently playing for Worcestershire in the County Championship.
Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman believes that Ravichandran Ashwin is a man of all three formats. There have been a lot of talks going on regarding the off-spinner’s absence from the Indian squad, which will face Australia in the limited overs series, starting on September 17th. The 1st ODI will take place in Chennai.
Ashwin didn’t feature in the Sri Lankan tour, and he went on to play for Worcestershire in the County Championship. But it came as a surprise when his name was omitted from the squad this time, as it is an important series and the visitors will look to clinch the upcoming trophy after being beaten in the Test series.
Laxman backs Ashwin
Laxman backed the spin spearhead and said that Ashwin is valuable in all the three formats. Laxman also believes that Ashwin is a leader, and he will prove his point at the right time.“Ashwin, the way he has had success in Tests, the success has not been the same in one-dayers. But having said that, over the last two years he has not been a regular member of the ODI side. That is why it is very tough to judge a player’s performance, if he is not given a long rope. But I still feel Ashwin is a very valuable player in all the three formats. He is someone who is a leader, and I always respect players who not only do well, but are also leaders within the group, and that is what Ashwin is. I believe he will be waiting for his chance, whenever he gets it, to prove a point,” Laxman told Hindustan Times.
Apart from Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja was also overlooked for the upcoming fixtures. While middle order veterans Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina failed to make a cut once again.
