The plane carrying the Australian World T20 2016 squad was delayed during its landing at the Chandigarh airport. The reason for their delay was that there was a bomb threat made against five Jet Airways airplanes.

Fortunately, the plane carrying the Aussie team was not one of the planes that received the threat. Their plane was on route to Chandigarh from Delhi. Their plane however had to circle the Chandigarh airport for around half an hour, as there was checking going on at the airport among the already landed Jet Airways planes.

Jet Airways plane no. 2657 was being searched for explosives. This plane had landed two hours before the plane carrying the Australian cricketers was supposed to land and was one of the 5 said planes to have been threatened.

Jet Airways said in a statement the flight had been one of five subjected to threats.

“Jet Airways has received a security alert for five flights from Delhi. All flights are on the ground and are being checked by security agencies at the respective airports. We regret the inconvenience caused to our guests. The safety and security of our guests and crew is always our main priority,” the airline said.

The plane carrying the Australian team landed after circling the airport for 30 minutes and the team was whisked to their vehicle quickly amidst high security, oblivious to what had happened at the airport.

Australia will play Pakistan next in their World T20 2016 encounter at the PCA stadium in Mohali on Friday, March 25th, 2016. Australia won their last match against the Bangladeshi team at Bengaluru, thanks to a brilliant bowling performance by Adam Zampa and brilliant maiden T20I fifty by Usman Khawaja.

Australia had lost their first match in the tournament to New Zealand and is now tied with India and Pakistan for points in the Group and is at the no.3 position on the points table.
