Australia vs India: Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja get involved in a spat
Now this is something very serious.
While all focus was on Indian captain Virat Kohli on Day 4 of the second Test match between Australia and India, thanks to his verbal exchanges with his Australian counterpart Tim Paine, there was another not-so-happy incident that took place on the ground in the first session of the day. The two players in question are fast bowler Ishant Sharma and spinner Ravindra Jadeja who was in the field as a substitute fielder.
In a video from the day’s play, it was seen that Ishant and Jadeja got themselves involved in a verbal argument for about a minute and half during a drinks break and were also seen pointing fingers at each other. It was not known, however, what the two players were talking about and the commentators were left guessing as to what had transpired between them.
Even Kuldeep Yadav, who was seen carrying drinks on the ground and Mohammed Shami, who was bowling at that moment, found stepping in to separate the two confronting players.
Not the first instance for Jadeja
This is not the first time, however, that Jadeja has been seen arguing with a team-mate on the ground. In 2013, during an ODI against the Windies in the Caribbeans, he got involved in an ugly spat with Suresh Raina over the dropping of a catch and other players had to step in to separate the two and Ishant was one among them. Incidentally, Kohli was the captain in that game too, though as a stand-in.
Coming back to Perth, the inaugural Test at the new stadium did not see the Indians returning happily as they were trounced by 146 runs by the hosts. Australia though saw a batting collapse late on Day 4 but they came back hard at the Indians and rattled their chase.
The visitors’ top order was cleaned up quickly and they lost five wickets for just 112 runs by the end of the day’s play, eyeing the target of 287. It did not take much out of the hosts to take the remaining five wickets in the morning of the final day as India were bundled out for 140.
