Australia's D'Arcy Short smashes 250 in one-day game for Western Australia

Australian batsman D’Arcy Short smashed his way to 257 off just 148 balls for Western Australia against Queensland in the JLT One-Day Cup. He fell 12 runs short of what would have been a new world record in men’s one-day cricket. The 28-year-old left-hander from Northern Territory became only the fourth Australian man to score a double century in a one-day match.

Short’s final score of 257 from 148 balls featured an astonishing 15 fours and 23 sixes and is the third highest score in the history of one-day cricket. The Australian went past New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, who was unbeaten on 237 during a World Cup quarter-final against the Windies in Wellington back in 2015.

The only two individuals who’ve recorded a higher one-day score than D’Arcy Short are India’s Rohit Sharma who blasted 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014 – which is the world’s highest ODI score – and Ali Brown, who currently holds the record with his 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan.

Short dominates Warriors innings

Interestingly, not a single one of Short’s team-mates in the Western Warriors were able to score more than 27. D’Arcy Short was eventually stumped towards the end of the Warriors’ first innings at Sydney’s Hurstville Oval. Meanwhile, the Queensland Bulls were staring at a daunting total of 387 at the halfway mark.

The left-hander ended his innings with a whopping strike rate of 173.65. Short made the most of the Hurstville Oval’s small boundaries as he brought up his century in Sehwag-esque fashion with a six. But his second hundred came off a mere 47 balls.
