Australia’s Tayla Vlaeminck ruled out of India ODIs and one-off Test
In the absence of Vlaeminck, Megan Schutt and Jess Jonassen, the onus will be on Ellyse Perry to shoulder Australia's bowling unit.
Australia Women’s fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck has been ruled out of the upcoming ODIs and Test against India. Head coach Matthew Mott said that the speedster has been going into a niggle due to which she has been kept under observation.
Despite missing out on the two formats, it’s learned that she might be back for the three-match T20I series from October 7. Mott emphasised focussing on Vlaeminck gaining full fitness and managing her workload apart taking care of Australia’s young pace bowlers.
“Tayla has had some little niggles throughout her build-up down in Victoria. That’s something that we’ve been monitoring all the way through
“And she does have to step up her loads gradually. We’ve got to manage her really well – we’ve got a huge 18 months for her as a young fast bowler, and we know the impact that she can have when she plays,” Mott said on cricket.com.au.
Tayla Vlaeminck and Megan Schutt miss out
The Aussies will be without both of their frontline bowlers for the two bilateral series. Fast bowler Megan Schutt won’t be a part of the series after the birth of her first child. And with Vlaeminck being ruled out, the onus will be on Ellyse Perry to shoulder the bowling unit.
Moreover, the Aussies won’t be having the services of left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen due to injury. In the meantime, Mott spoke highly of Perry for upping her game in recent times. The fact that she dismissed skipper Meg Lanning at the nets impressed Mott to a large extent.
“(Perry has) obviously had a very long recovery now and (this series is) something she’s planned a lot for. Speaking to (bowling coach) Ben Sawyer, who has worked a lot with her at the Sixers, he’s really happy with where she’s at.
“At the crease he can’t remember her being as strong as she has been. She had a pretty good bowl today, she got a little bit of tap early, but then came back and got a wicket, got Meg out and bowled really well,” Mott added.
In the absence of Vlaeminck, Mott said that Darcie Brown could make her debut in the one-off Test. India’s tour of Australia starts on Tuesday, September 21 at the Harrup Park in Mackay. The Test match will take place from September 30 at the Carrara Oval in Queensland.
