Bangladesh Cricket Board is all set to come up with a new stadium in two year's time
The BCB has a new stadium in their plans.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is all set to come up with a new stadium in two years time, which might well prove to be one of the best stadia in the world. The President of BCB Nazmul Hassan said that the stadium will be named after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Further to that, if the sources are to be believed, the hallowed Eden Gardens may be the largest cricket ground in the subcontinent but, it may get competition from a stadium in Bangladesh.
Nazmul Hassan told PTI after the conclusion of the ICC Board meeting here today that, “We want this to become one of the best in the world. Let’s hope for the best. It will be a centre of excellence.” He further added that the stadium will have the Centre of Excellence for cricket in Bangladesh as they are planning a capacity of “at least 50,000”.
Planning a Capacity of At Least 50,000
“We are waiting for the land, the earlier we get the faster it will be ready. If we get the land, then BCB will build the stadium on its own. It will be the best venue ever in Bangladesh with a capacity of at least 50,000. We hope to get it ready within a time frame of one and half years to maximum two years. It will be one of the most modern stadiums in the world.”
He was further asked whether the cricket centre will shift from Mirpur to Purbachal once the stadium is ready, he said: “It’s not like that. We will have another option. Mirpur is very old, many things have changed. It will be the most modern and that will be a major attraction. But at the same time matches will also happen in Mirpur.”
It will be interesting to see whether things fall in right place for Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and they give their spectators a better feel. With the amount of cricket happening in Bangladesh and the stature they have achieved the past 2-3 years, this seems to be the perfect time to come up with a new stadium.
