Adelaide Strikers pushed themselves to No.2 in the points table with an 11-run victory against the Melbourne Stars at the Adelaide Oval. Jonathan Wells continued his good form as his unbeaten 36-ball 55 helped the Strikers to finish on 162/4 in 20 overs. The Strikers didn’t let the Stars dominate the chase as they picked wickets at regular intervals as the required rate kept climbing. Skipper Peter Handscomb scored an unbeaten 65 off 39 balls with 8 boundaries but could only make 151/8.

Strikers’ streak at home against Stars:

5 – The Adelaide Strikers have won each of their last five matches at the Adelaide Oval in the BBL against the Melbourne Stars. The two teams faced off in six matches at this venue but the Stars managing to win only during the first meeting between the two sides here in the 2012-13 season by 8 runs.


6-5 – The Strikers lead the head to head record against the Melbourne Stars by 6-5 margin. This is the first time that the Strikers have earned the lead in the head to head record against the Stars.


A record season for Jonathan Wells:

4 – Number of fifties for Jonathan Wells in the Big Bash League 2019-20. He has scored all those four fifties while batting at No.4 and a lower position. Wells thus became the first player with four 50-plus scores while not opening the innings in an edition of BBL.


406 – Jonathan Wells is only the 2nd player to aggregate 400+ runs in a Big Bash League edition for the Adelaide Strikers. Alex Carey amassed 443 runs during the 2017-18 season where he played only 11 innings.


Peter Siddle picks up a 4-fer:

1 – Peter Siddle recorded figures of 4/33 in this match which is now the first 4-wicket haul in the BBL for the Strikers against the Melbourne Stars. The previous best bowling for the Strikers against the Stars is 3/19 by Ben Laughlin in 2016-17 season match in Melbourne and also 3/19 by Laughlin during 2018-19 season game in Adelaide.


A list occupied by Rashid Khan:

17 – Rashid Khan has picked up 17 wickets in the ongoing Big Bash League; the 3rd most number of wickets picked up a bowler in a BBL edition of the Strikers. The top two in this list are also on the name of Rashid who took 19 wickets in the previous edition and 18 in 2017-18 which was his debut season.


Spinners take the workload for the Stars:

15 – As many as 15 out of the 20 overs in the Adelaide Strikers’ innings were bowled by the spin bowlers for the Melbourne Stars. Daniel Worrall (4) and Lance Morris (1) were the only pace options for the Stars.
