The Bangladesh Cricket (BCB) recently mentioned that they are on the verge of appointing Gary Kirsten as a consultant for the national team. The former South African cricketer is expected to mentor and provide valuable suggestions to the board regarding the selection of coaches at the various cricketing levels in the country.

Recently, Nazmul Hasan, the President of the BCB, shared the news of Kirsten’s appointment. “We have already confirmed Kirsten’s appointment. It is in the final stages. He is already working for us. Kirsten will help us work out which coaches will work in what specific roles, and that includes the head coach role of the national side,” Hasan was quoted as saying in thedailystar.net.

The President also talked about the potential course of action after Kirsten joins the cricket board. “We will hand over a list of new coaches to him. He will also hand us a list of his own. We will then sit down with him to discuss the coaching roles for Bangladesh cricket,” he added.

No coach for Afghanistan series

Kirsten is presently playing the role of a mentor and the batting coach for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was also the coach of the Indian team which won the 2011 Cricket World Cup in the subcontinent.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh is without a coach ever since Chandika Hathurusingha’s resignation following the nation’s abysmal tour of South Africa where they were thumped by the Proteas in the Test, ODI and T20I series. For the time being, it has also been learned that three names from South Africa, Australia and England have been shortlisted for the head coach’s role.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Dehradun, India. The matches will start from June 6 and the team won’t have a head coach at least for this series.
