BCCI announces the venue for the one-off Test against Afghanistan
The game will be played from June 14 to June 18.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the venue for the historic one-off Test match against Afghanistan. The match will be played from June 14 to June 18 later this year. The event will be a huge one for the new entrants in Test cricket as it was India who provided them with the ground in Noida for the practice and all the facilities. However, Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will host the one-off Test match between India and Afghanistan.
There were speculations earlier that the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had requested BCCI to hold the match at the Noida Cricket Ground. But the Indian board has gone with Bengaluru which has traditionally attracted a lot of crowds for the longest format of the game. There is an amazing cricket following in the city and it is expected that a lot of Afghanistan supporters will also travel to India in order to support their heroes.
The Memorable journey
The journey of Afghanistan has been exceptional in the game of cricket. They are one of the most improved cricketing nations in last few years and have constantly defeated the established teams. International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded them with the Test status last year along with Ireland. Since then, even their players had expressed desires of playing their first ever Test match against India. A lot of their players are the fans of the Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni among many others.
The young Rashid Khan and the veteran Mohammad Nabi are already the legends in the country as they were the first couple of players to have played in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) last year. The duo went on to play the other leagues like Carribean Premier League (CPL) and are currently featuring in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) as well. They have lit up the tournaments around the world with some exceptional performances. They have also ruled the intercontinental tournament in the longest format and deserved to be awarded the Test status.
