Manjot Kalra scores a ton in the WC final
Australian captain Jason Sangha won the toss and elected to bat first, whenever India had the opportunity to chase in the tournament they won by massive margins with the smallest among them being – 100 runs. The Indian pacers struck early and kept things tight. A half century from Jonathan Merlo in the middle pushed Australia beyond 200. But the bowlers once again made a comeback and wrapped the Aussies up for 216.
It wasn’t a total big enough to challenge the Boys in Blue given the way they’ve batted thus far in the tournament. Skipper Shaw and Manjot Kalra got them off to a good start. Once Shaw departed and Shubhman Gill also fell for 31 Australia would’ve sensed a chance. However, Kalra took the onus upon himself and batted through. He scored a magnificent hundred and took the team over the line along with Harvik Desai who was unbeaten on 47.
This is the Indian team’s fourth junior World Cup title and the cash prizes have just started, things will get bigger once they return back home with the silverware.
