BCCI appoints a new head for the India junior selection committee
The previous holder of the post was Venkatesh Prasad quit the role in March.
The reins of the Junior Selection Committee in India have been handed over to former Indian off-spinner, Aashish Kapoor. He’ll take over the post of chairmanship from Venkatesh Prasad, who quit the role in March to join the Kings XI Punjab side in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Apart from Kapoor, Gyanendra Pandey and Rakesh Parekh will also be present in the committee.
Kapoor will have large shoes to fill, considering India reached the finals U19 World Cup twice and won it earlier this year, during Prasad’s tenure. The former Indian pacer had to quit his role owing to his involvement with the KXIP. Had he held both positions, it’d have led to a direct conflict of interest as stipulated by the Lodha Panel.
Aashish Kapoor to be at the helm of the Junior Selection Committee for India
As reported by ESPNCricInfo, Kapoor will head the Junior Selection Committee, which is an extremely important role, considering the committee plays a pivotal role in fortifying the future player base for the national side.
In his playing career, Aashish Kapoor represented Team India in four Tests and 17 ODIs in the period of 1994-2000. Apart from having a successful domestic career, he was also a part of the World Cup squad in 1996 and was included in the playing XI for the semi-final game against Sri Lanka in the same tournament. In the domestic circuit, Kapoor scalped 398 wickets in 128 first-class matches and scored 3449 runs during his career span.
Indian Women’s Team to hire new bowling coach
According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to invite applications for the role a new bowling coach for the Women’s cricket team. Currently, the batting realm for the team is looked after by Tushar Arothe while Biju George serves as the fielding coach. The move has come in the light of the women’s team management voicing the need for a bowling coach.
Speaking on the issue, a senior BCCI official said, “The women’s team management has expressed the need of a bowling coach. We will soon start the hunt for a suitable candidate by inviting applications. The applicants need not have an international background. Even Tushar has not played for India so that really is not a factor.”
