BCCI clears the air over Virat Kohli’s request of allowing WAGs of cricketers on overseas tours

During India’s series against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formulated a rule wherein wives and girlfriends of cricketers can’t accompany their partners for the first two weeks of a tour and can only stay with them for 14 days thereafter. However, Virat Kohli, the29-year-old Indian skipper, requested for an alteration in the rule.

A report earlier suggested that Kohli’s idea was agreed upon with a condition that they can’t travel to any destinations during the first 10 days of their stay. Nevertheless, it has recently been learned that there’s no such agreement between the Delhi-born player and the world’s cricket board and the same was mentioned by Diana Edulji, a member of the BCCI.

BCCI makes a statement

“No decision. More opinion will be taken. May take some more time. All news floating around is false: Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji, on Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli request to BCCI to allow wives of players to extend their stay during overseas tours,” a tweet by ANI news mentioned.

The likes of Anushka Sharma (wife of Virat), Ayesha Dhawan (wife of Shikhar Dhawan) and Ritika Sajdeh (wife of Rohit Sharma) have often been seen gracing their presence in stands at different venues around the globe. The issue has created a bit of controversy in India’s erstwhile overseas tour on English soil when Kohli and his better-half visited the Indian High Commission in London.

During the meet, a picture went viral where Anushka was seen standing with the Indian cricketers around him. Surprisingly, no other wives or partners were present and it occurred after the formulation of the rule. Subsequently, the Bollywood actor was slammed.

India’s upcoming tour is on November when they will play a T20I, ODI and a Test series against Australia.  India recently played a two-match Test series against Windies and are now scheduled to play a five-match ODI series against the Caribbean team, starting October 21.
