With the mojo of Test cricket declining in the recent times, the day-night Test cricket is an attempt to restore the glory. The day-night games provide the audience with a comfortable time to watch the match and enjoy the action. Right since the first Pink ball Test was played between New Zealand and Australia in 2015, we’ve witnessed ten day-night Tests played thus far.

All the major Test cricketing nations have got a go at least once in the format. However, the biggest powerhouse in the world of cricket, Team India has failed to play even one game. While it was expected that India would play a day-night game at Adelaide during the Australian tour later this year, the BCCI has turned down that offer as well.

‘We are working on day-night Tests’

The BCCI has cited players’ and managements’ reluctance as the reason for turning the offer down. However, the richest cricket board in the world has now come up with a good news for the fans. Member of BCCI’s Committee of Administrators (COA), Diana Edulji mentioned that the board is trying hard to organise a game in the day-night format. She further added that it will happen whenever it comes up.

“We are working on it (day-night Tests). It will happen, whenever it comes up,” Edulji said on the sidelines of the ninth Dilip Sardesai memorial lecture at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai on Monday. When she was questioned about why the BCCI rejected Cricket Australia’s offer to play a day-night game, she said: “That happened, but it will change.”

The Indian cricket team is set to face the Windies for two Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is before they fly to Australia for the long, gruelling tour. The team is expected to have an added edge Down Under with the Aussies looking weak in the absence of David Warner and Steve Smith.
