BCCI urges Sehwag to get Ashish Nehra on social media
One of the rare sights in Indian cricket is that Ashish Nehra makes an appearance at a press conference. In addition, the 36-year old is also not a part of any social media handle. Therefore, it was embarrassing for the reporter as well as red-faced Nehra to admit to such a claim.
It was reported that someone had asked Nehra regarding the India v Bangladesh rivalry that has been trending on social media. Earlier, an image with Taskin Ahmed holding the head of Indian skipper MS Dhoni had received mixed criticisms on social media. Nehra however, was unable to comment on the same as he isn’t on social media or doesn’t even read the newspaper.
“You are asking this question to a wrong person because I am somebody who is on social media. I am still using my old Nokia so I am not on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I don’t read newspapers,” he said. Upon hearing that, the reporters present at the presser burst out into laughter.
Virender Sehwag, Nehra’s mouthpiece on Twitter as well as Nehra’s friend from the Indian team and the Delhi side, was requested to educate Nehra on the tips and tricks of social media. The BCCI urged the former Indian batsman to also help Nehra make the transition into the digital age and to help him manage the Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. Ironically, Sehwag himself is a new entrant into the world of social media and has become a prominent figure on Twitter following his retirement from all forms of the game in October last year.
India takes on Bangladesh at Bengaluru and the Indians will be hoping that Ashish Nehra will bring all his experience to the fore.
