The cocoon has broken and led to the birth of a new world-class batsman and leader in the name of Steven Smith. Bagging ICC Player of the Year and Test Player of the Year awards, this was truly Australian’s year in the longer format. Despite a disappointing Ashes from the team’s perspective, Smith was ruthless with his batting skills in England, with the highlight being a 215 at the Mecca of cricket. His form continued in the summer Down Under against New Zealand and West Indies, ending up with a mammoth 1474 runs in 2015, consisting of 6 centuries and 5 fifties.
