Bowlers with hat-tricks in T20Is
Taking a hat-trick in any form of the game is considered to be one of the toughest feats to achieve for any bowler. When it comes to the shortest format of the game, the T20s, which is reputed to be a death race for the bowlers, the task of taking three in three balls becomes all the more tough. The emergence of different T20 leagues across the globe has seen a lot of bowlers take hat-tricks; India’s opener Rohit Sharma also has an IPL hat-trick to his name. The extent of leagues has become so vast that such rare feats in International games often go unnoticed. Since the inception of international T20s, there have only been four bowlers who have taken a hat-trick. Here are the bowlers with hat-tricks in T20Is.
1. Brett Lee v Bangladesh in 2007:
Australian speedster Brett Lee entered the record books as he became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in T20Is in 2007. During the group stage match against Bangladesh in the inaugural edition of the World T20, Brett Lee ripped apart the Bangladesh lower order to complete his hat-trick. In the 17th over of the match, Lee first got the edge of the bat of Shakib Al Hasan and Adam Gilchrist completed an easy catch. On the next delivery, Lee castled Mashrafe Mortaza and rattled his stumps. Alok Kapali took the strike as Lee ran in to bowl his hat-trick ball. Lee trapped Kapali right in front of the stumps and thereby completed his hat-trick. This was the second hat-trick for the speedster in international cricket after his first in the ICC World Cup 2003 match against Kenya.
Lee’s spell: 4-0-27-3
