Charlotte Edwards has her eyes set on county cricket and coaching
However, Edwards does not want to detach herself from cricket fully with coaching being her next plan.
Former English cricketer Charlotte Edwards decided to part ways with professional cricket after her team Southern Vipers suffered a thumping loss to Western Storm in the final of the second edition of Women’s Cricket Super League, on Friday (September 1). The prolific top order batsman hung her boots from international cricket in the year of 2016. She was sacked as the England captain after the team had a miserable campaign in the Women’s World T20 last year.
However, Edwards does not want to detach herself from cricket fully with coaching being her next plan. Speaking to Sky Sports she mentioned that she is willing to play some county cricket too to keep herself involved in the game.
What Edwards said:
“I think I would like to play some county cricket but in terms of this competition and playing overseas this is it,” said Edwards.
“My time is done and I want to pursue other things such as coaching and perhaps some media work. “I am happy and content with what I have achieved in my career, I have loved every minute of it.” she added.
“I haven’t got anything final lined up in terms of coaching. “I have spoken to the ECB about potentially working with their junior age groups and hopefully help a lot of the good talent we have got in England develop.” Edwards stated.
She continued “I am not envious of the youngsters, I just hope they can grab the incredible opportunities there are now. It is a brilliant time to be involved in the women’s game and hopefully the game in this country will continue to grow.”
Edwards who became the youngest woman to play for England when she made her debut, is still the most capped women cricketer for the country. She has played 23 Tests, 191 One Day Internationals and 95 T20 internationals in a career that stretched for a massive 20 years.
