Check out the players age when the last time India-West Indies met in a World Cup knockout

India and the West Indies have enjoyed great rivalry. India first played the Carribean Kings on 10trh November 1948 when the Lala Amarnath led team faced off The West Indies team comprising of the likes of George Headley, Clyde Walcott and Everton Weekes.

But the most memorable moment between both the team came during the 1983 World Cup. Their World Cup rivalry goes back to June 25, 1983, when they first faced each other in the title clash of the quadrennial event at Lord’s, London.

Since then, many generations of exciting talents have played the game for their respective countries. And, precisely 32 years, nine months and six days ago from that day, both teams are yet again set for a to play a very important World Cup fixture.

But, interesting facts about players were discovered when the IBN Live dug up the stats and had a glance at the squads of both the competition team.

The West Indies have only four while India has only three players who were born before India’s 1983 World Cup triumph. From West Indies, Chris Gayle, Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn, and Marlon Samuels, while from India Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh and MS Dhoni were born before the Kapil’s Devils won the coveted trophy.

Veteran fast bowler Ashish Nehra (37 years old) is the oldest cricketer in both the teams, followed by Chris Gayle (36 years old). Nehra was 4 years, one month and 27 days old, while Gayle was 3 years, 9 months and 4 days on July 25, 1983. Among other Indians, Dhoni (34 years old) was 1 year, 11 months 18 days old, and Harbhajan (35) was 2 years, 11 months 22 days of age at that time.

West Indies’ top T20 bowler, leg-spinner, Samuel Badree (35 years old) who debuted at a matured age of 31, was 2 years, 3 months and 16 days at that time. Another spinner Sulieman Benn (34 years old) was 1 year, 11 months and 3 days, while Marlon Samuels (35-year-old) was 2 years, 4 months and 20 days old. All-rounder Dwayne Bravo and skipper Darren Sammy were just 3 months and 5 months old.

Batting superstar Virat Kohli  born more than five years after the famous triumph. India’s rising stars Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah were born more than 10 years after India a upstaged the Goliaths of the World Cricket on June 25, 1983.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan is the oldest cricketer in the team, but he was born 2 years, 5 months and 10 days after India became only the second team after the West Indies to win the coveted trophy.
