CoA order BCCI’s state units to provide list of current office-bearers

Earlier today, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) sent out a new notice asking the various state units of the BCCI to furnish details of their office bearers. The demanded listicle should include the names of the current office-bearers along with the duration of their stay.

Appointed by the Supreme Court, the CoA came into existence on January 30 of this year to curb Board for Control of Cricket in India’s rather notorious and monopoly schemes and to protect the organisation from corruption allegations. The three-point letter issued by the CoA to each state unit asked for the details in reference to the prior meeting of May 6 meeting with the office-bearers.

As per TOI, the letter stated the following:

“During the said meeting (May 6), the Committee of Administrators had also communicated that it would be helpful to have details of current office bearers of all Members of the BCCI. Accordingly, we request you to provide us with the names of your current office bearers along with the dates on which they assumed office.”

The bulletin also stated that there would be a meeting in the future between the CoA and the state units to discuss implementations of the Lodha reforms.

“During the said meeting, there was a consensus that further meetings between the office bearers of Member Associations and the Committee of Administrators would be fruitful for all concerned. The Committee of Administrators will address a separate communication on the timing and subjects of discussion for these further meetings.”

A brief about the Committee of Administrators (CoA)

The committee includes a four-member panel nominated by the apex court. The members of the panel are Ramachandra Guha, Vikaram Limaye and Diana Edulji. Vinod Rai is an ex-CAG of India and heads the four members panel to look after the administrative duties of the board in the interim till the fresh elections are called.

The need for the CoA arose soon after Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke were removed from the posts of BCCI president and secretary respectively. They were discharged from office after failing to implement a majority of the Lodha Committee’s recommendations despite a court decision. The court’s ruling also affected the eligibility of office-bearers in the state units.
