CoA requests Supreme Court to appoint Ombudsman to speed up Hardik Pandya-KL Rahul inquiry
The SC might take the decision today.
Ever since the cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have been suspended for their misogynist comments on the talk show Koffee with Karan, a lot has happened in the CoA. The two members of the CoA Diana Edulji and Vinod Rai are at the loggerheads over the quantum of punishment and they have sought for a legal opinion on the same. However, amidst all the happenings, the cricketers’ future seems to be in the dark as the inquiry hasn’t moved forward in the last few days at all.
Meanwhile, it is understood that the CoA has requested the Supreme Court to appoint an Ombudsman soon to speed up the case. The committee feels that it is unfair on the cricketers to keep them waiting indefinitely and that too after they’ve accepted their mistakes and admitted that they got carried away due to the nature of the show.
Rai submits CoA’s report to SC
According to the reports in the Times of India, Vinod Rai has submitted CoA’s inquiry report to the Supreme Court and requested it to take swift action on the case to end the impasse. Rai himself was of the opinion earlier that both Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul should be suspended for two matches for their irresponsible comments on the talk show.
“The CoA needs to take corrective action swiftly. They have given an unconditional apology and any further delay of not appointing an ombudsman could force them out of the New Zealand tour, which happens right after the Australian series gets over. That is not going to be good for these cricketers,” the source privy to the development told the TOI.
The SC is expected to take the decision on appointing the Ombudsman, which will most likely happen, on Thursday and after that the case might move forward soon.
