Day five of the Lord’s Test was poised for an exciting finish. To start with, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami spilt cold water on England’s chances of winning the game. In the last two sessions, an Indian win and a draw were the two possible results on the cards. Amidst the excitement, Virat Kohli, the visitors’ skipper, tried to ruffle Ollie Robinson’s feather.

When Robinson came to bat with India needing three wickets to wrap up the game, Kohli turned nasty at the batter. The Indian captain drew the reference of Cheteshwar Pujara’s 206-ball 45 to sledge Robinson in the fourth innings of the game. Pujara’s 100-run stand with Ajinkya Rahane in the second innings was instrumental in India’s win at the Home of Cricket.

“Pujj (Pujara), How boring was your innings? How boring was your innings? (Indicating at Robinson) – Maybe, that’s how you survive in a test match,” Kohli said. “Come on, big mouth (Robinson), Gonna bring your sheets today?”

It all started when Jasprit Bumrah bowled quite a few bouncers at James Anderson in the first innings of the second Test. Anderson copped blows on the arm, helmet and chest as well. Later, the English bowlers tried to give the Indians a taste of their own medicine.

Later, KL Rahul, who got the Player of the Match award, stated that all 11 Indians would hit back if the hosts sledge even one of their players.

“That’s what you expect with two competitive teams, you know, you are always going to see great skills, a lot of heart and a few words as well. That only shows how much both teams want to win. We don’t mind a little bit of banter. And, you go after one of our guys, all 11 of us will come right back at them,” Rahul said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

“That just got us going and the bowlers were really pumped and wanted to go out there and have a real crack at them. Really happy with the performance they have put in this game,” he stated.

India won the Lord’s Test by a mammoth margin of 151 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. They are now set to play the third Test, starting August 25 at Headingley, Leeds.
