CPL 2018: Denesh Ramdin drops a sitter; bowler unknowingly celebrates
It didn't cost them much as Fletcher only scored 19 runs.
The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) got underway with a game between the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and St Lucia Stars. The hosts began their tournament in a spanking fashion as they thumped the opposition by 100 runs. Stars, on the other hand, didn’t quite looked up for the challenge. However, during the one-sided game, there was a hilarious moment as the bowler Ali Khan celebrated as if he has picked a wicket despite the catch being dropped by the wicket-keeper.
Knight Riders posted a mammoth total of 195 runs after being invited to bat first. Colin Munro and Denesh Ramdin batted beautifully as they registered a highest T20 total at the venue. The chase began with a lot of hope as David Warner opened the innings with Andre Fletcher. Ali Khan was handed over the responsibility to open with the new ball.
Mistaken celebration
The bowler did well by swinging the ball both ways and gave away only 5 runs off his first five deliveries which also included a couple of wides. But the real action began off the last ball which swung a little bit away from Fletcher even as he tried to play a cut shot. He edged it and the ball went to a catchable height to the wicketkeeper Ramdin who dropped a sitter.
Meanwhile, Ali was unaware that his teammate has dropped the catch and started celebrating with others as if he has picked a wicket. It looked odd as Ramdin also had a sheepish look on his face. It took a while for the confusion to get cleared and Fletcher was reprieved early in the innings. This will go down as one of the biggest mistaken celebrations ever.
Thankfully for the Knights, the drop catch didn’t cost much as Fletcher could only score 19 runs off 11 balls and was castled by the same bowler in the third over of the chase.
