CPL 2019, Match 4, Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Match Prediction – Weather Report, Pitch Conditions, Playing XIs and Live Streaming Details
The Warriors have a 75 per cent win record over the Patriots in eight matches.
Guyana Amazon Warriors, the runners-up of the CPL’s previous edition, started well, beating the St Lucia Zouks by 13 runs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The team, led by Shoaib Malik, was defending only 155 runs and a 14-ball 36 blitzkrieg from Zouks’ opener Rahkeem Cornwall put pressure on them. However, their bowlers didn’t lose calm and kept chipping away with wickets.
Their next match is versus the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, who lost to the Trinbago Knight Riders in their opening match, in Guyana itself. The Warriors have a 6-2 record over the Patriots. Moreover, in Guyana, St Kitts have never beaten the Warriors in a couple of attempts. The Guyana bowling unit is in form and the Patriots’ batsmen need to make amends after a lacklustre show in the opener.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in the first game at the venue wasn’t an overly difficult one for batting. But it assisted the spinners, especially in the second half. Both teams have potent bowling units and won’t mind batting first and then put pressure on the opposition. A spell of shower is expected in the morning, but the heavens won’t open up during the game. The temperature will be about 26 degrees Celsius.
Team Combinations
Guyana Amazon Warriors
The Warriors would be better off not tinkering with their winning combination. Malik was hit on the forearm while batting and he didn’t field. But in the presentation ceremony, he said that he was waiting for the match to end, which suggested that the injury may not be a serious one. Chris Green, the stand-in skipper, also got hit on the box in an attempt to take a difficult catch.
He is most likely to play the next game. From the cricketing perspective, Green was excellent, picking up a couple of wickets and scoring a 15-ball 28. Shadab Khan also did well, getting three wickets at crucial junctures. Keemo Paul was erratic with the bat, but top-scored with 38. Laughlin also went for a few. Nicholas Pooran will be desperate to get his form back after bagging the golden duck.
Probable XI
Chandrapaul Hemraj, Brandon King Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shoaib Malik (C), Sherfane Rutherford, Chris Green, Keemo Paul, Shadab Khan, Romario Shepherd, Ben Laughlin
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
The Patriots may not press the panic button too early and should continue with the same lineup. In the batting area, a lot will again depend on Evin Lewis, who got 36 versus TKR. Mohammad Hafeez didn’t look fluent with the bat in hand. The team would be hoping for the middle-order, comprising of the likes of Jason Mohammed and Devon Thomas, to provide some solidity to the batting.
Carlos Brathwaite was more effective with the ball than his figures would suggest. But at a time when he was needed to deliver with the bat, he got run out. Fabian Allen took Seekkuge Prasanna to the cleaners and he may move up the order. Usama Mir showed that he can find the boundary. Cottrell’s role will again be key. Rayad Emrit also brought forth his experience, getting three wickets.
Probable XI
Kjorn Ottley, Evin Lewis, Mohammad Hafeez, Jason Mohammed, Devon Thomas (wk), Carlos Brathwaite (C), Fabian Allen, Usama Mir, Rayad Emrit, Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell
Probable Top Performers
Nicholas Pooran – Guyana Amazon Warriors | Evin Lewis – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
