The 10th encounter in the CPL 2020 is scheduled to be played between the runners-up of the previous edition Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Zouks on 23rd August at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. Though both the teams started their journey in the 2020 edition with a loss, they have done well to make a comeback and register consecutive victories.

The Zouks will enter this match after making it two in a row as they defeated the Barbados Tridents by 7 wickets in a rain-curtailed event and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 10 runs in their last encounter, though Sheldon Cottrell gave them a near heart-attack towards the end.

They had most of their bases covered as Andre Fletcher and Mark Deyal contributed extremely well at the top. The two men from Afghanistan- Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi– also made reliable performances with the bat before the Zouks restricted Patriots 10 runs short of the winning total courtesy some brilliance of Scott Kuggeleijn and Roston Chase with the ball.

On the other hand, Guyana Amazon Warriors also slammed the Patriots by three wickets before clinching a low scoring encounter against Jamaica Tallawahs by 14 runs to also make it two on two. Their encounter was a bowlers’ delight as they were bundled out for just 118 runs in 19.1 overs before giving an even more inspired effort with the ball to defend such a low score.

Pitch and playing conditions

The forecast predicts chances of rains and therefore the new ball might swing a bit in overcast conditions. The game might well be a rain-curtailed one and hence DRS could come into play. The spinners have been undoubtedly getting immense help from the wicket and that has become the constant in the equation.

Playing combination

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The issues at the top finally looked solved with King and Chandapaul making contributions at the top, however, the Warriors fell like nine-pins in what was a sheer collapse after the start. Their star performer Shimron Hetmyer got out for a duck but will walk in at 3 nonetheless.

Ross Taylor made a 30-ball 21 but given the situation he came in, we need to give it to him. Nicholas Pooran’s run has been terribly cold the entire season and he needs to gather himself soon as does Sherfane Rutherford. Skipper Chris Green failed with the bat but was phenomenal in his bowling spell.

With all the bowlers making contributions in the last match, it is unlikely that the Warriors will make any change in this slot. Ashmead Nedd, the debutant, bowled a brilliant and economic spell and might be retained whereas Keemo Paul is a sure entrant too. Naveen-ul-Haq played a useful hand with the bat before a good performance with the ball and alongside Imran Tahir, he will complete the unit.

Predicted XI- Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Ashmead Nedd/Romario Shepherd, Naveen-ul-Haq, Imran Tahir.

Bench: Odean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Kevin Sinclair, Jessy Singh, Ashmead Nedd, Kissoodath Magram.

St Lucia Zouks

Andre Fletcher and Mark Deyal played fluently and gave the Zouks a flying start and will look to continue doing the same. Rahkeem Cornwall should be seen opening while Deyal at No.3

Roston Chase failed to click with the bat but he made up by bagging 3 wickets at an extreme economy of 4. Mohammad Nabi has shone with both bat and ball and has given two Man-of-the-match performances in a row. His counterpart Najibullah Zadran has also contributed well with the bat and will be seen doing his job in the middle-order.

Scott Kuggeleijn was unstoppable in the last game and bagged a 4-fer to ensure his team’s victory. All the other bowlers in Kesrick Williams, Obed McCoy, and spinner Saad-bin-Zafar leaked runs heavily and will look to contribute this time around.

Predicted XI- Andre Fletcher (WK), Rahkeem Cornwall, Mark Deyal, Roston Chase, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Daren Sammy (C), Scott Kuggeleijn, Obed McCoy, Kesrick Williams, Saad Bin Zafar.

Bench: Javelle Glen, Kavem Hodge, Chemar Holder, Leniko Boucher, Kimani Melius, Zahir Khan.
