CPL 2020: Match 12, Jamaica Tallawahs vs Guyana Amazon Warriors, Match Prediction – Weather Report, Pitch Conditions, Playing XIs and Live Streaming Details
This match is going to be a crucial one for the Tallawahs, however, from a viewer’s perspective, the clash will be full of vigor given some big guns will be seen in action.
The Jamaica Tallawahs will lock horns with the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 12th match of CPL 2020 on 26th August at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. This encounter is going to be the second meeting of these two teams in this edition. The last time they met in Trinidad, the Warriors pulled off a spectacular victory by 14 runs and defended an otherwise unwinnable total of 118. However, the Tallawahs faded and surrendered completely in front of the Warriors’ bowling line up and were wrapped up for a paltry 104.
The Tallawahs opened their account early in the tournament as they thrashed St Lucia Zouks by 5 wickets in their very first encounter. However, the things have started to go awry for them ever since and they come to their 4th league face-off, they are entering in with a streak of two losses.
Much to their euphoria, Andre Russell struck the right chord last time and performed with both bat and ball. However, when the game entered in his territory, he looked innocuous in the last over of the chase. The Tallawahs have failed to perform as a unit and have left way too many gaps to expect to win.
On the other hand, the Warriors too are not coming in this encounter on high as they failed to chase a modest target of 144 against St Lucia Zouks in Trinidad and went onto lose the match by 10 runs. Compared to their adversary, the Warriors look better placed on the table with 4 points, however, they have played a match more than the Tallawahs. Shimron Hetmyer has had two rough outings in a row after putting up a couple of bright shows. Although Nicholas Pooran getting runs under his belt would give the team management a massive sigh of relief.
This match is going to be a crucial one for the Tallawahs, however, from a viewer’s perspective, the clash will be full of vigor given some big guns will be seen in action.
Pitch and playing conditions
Runs should be on offer for the batsman as the pitch will be fresh and hard. The spinners will get assistance in the middle-overs, however, the pacers will have purchase with the new ball.
Also, this being a night encounter, the ball might skid a tad bit on the surface under the lights and hence batting will be easier as the game progresses. The ideal choice should, therefore, be to chase as there is also a chance of dew setting in later.
Playing combinations
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj provided a flying start to the Warriors against Tallawahs knowing little that a dreadful collapse of the middle-order was awaiting them. Their run at the top has not been too convincing apart from that one occasion and they disappointed again against Zouks. Shimron Hetmyer’s form too seems to have taken a leave as he has been pale twice in a row. However, the top three are going to stay unchanged.
Ross Taylor has struggled to get his flow though most of its credit goes to a falling middle-order around him. Nicholas Pooran getting amongst runs after multiple failures is a big positive and he would want to carry on. Sherfane Rutherford has been disappointing consistently and it is high time he would want to chip in.
Skipper Chris Green plays as a designated all-rounder, though he has failed to perform like one. Though he was phenomenal with the ball in the last game. Keemo Paul has been in wickets, however, his rhythm has been slightly unpredictable. Ashmead Nedd has been magnificent with the ball twice in a row whereas Imran Tahir is an obvious pick.
Predicted XI- Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Ross Taylor, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Naveen-ul-Haq/Odean Smith, Ashmead Nedd, Imran Tahir.
Bench: Naveen-ul-Haq/Odean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Kevin Sinclair, Jessy Singh, Romario Shepherd, Kissoodath Magram.
Jamaica Tallawahs
The top-order was absolutely bamboozled in the last game against the Warriors as both Chadwick Walton and Glenn Philips were dismissed for ducks, the former’s being a golden one. Philips has otherwise performed well, though missed in the last game.
The middle-order will comprise of either Nkrumah Bonner or Nicholas Kirton alongside skipper Rovman Powell and Asif Ali. The No. 3 has stayed a problem for the Warriors as neither Kirton nor Bonner have performed. However, Ali and Powell have been doing their job well.
Andre Russell gave an all-round performance in the last game and though Carlos Brathwaite failed with the bat, he was fierce with the ball. Oshane Thomas bowled only one very expensive over in the last game and he might be replaced with Veerasammy Permaul. Fidel Edwards went wicket-less though he was economical. The spin duo of Sandeep Lamichhane and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman has performed in every single match without exception.
Predicted XI- Chadwick Walton, Glenn Phillips (WK), Nkrumah Bonner/Nicholas Kirton, Rovman Powell (C) Asif Ali, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Veerasammy Permaul/Oshane Thomas, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Fidel Edwards.
Bench: Ramaal Lewis, Nkrumah Bonner/Nicholas Kirton, Jermaine Blackwood, Preston McSween, Ryan Persaud, Veerasammy Permaul.
