Trinbago Knight Riders haven’t put a foot wrong in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Having won their first nine round-robin matches, Kieron Pollard would be wishing to go into the semis, remaining unbeaten. After beating the St Lucia Zouks by 23 runs, the Knights would now be facing the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the first of Sunday’s doubleheader at the Brian Lara Stadium.

In their previous meeting, TKR thumped Rayad Emrit’s men by 59 runs. The Patriots are languishing at the bottom of the points table with a solitary victory. They made a decent start in their previous game against the Jamaica Tallawahs, but the game was abandoned due to rain. Like Barbados Tridents, even the Patriots would be looking to end their campaign in the event on a winning note.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the venue has been more or less friendly. Batting hasn’t been all that tough, but playing shots on the up has been difficult. The spinners have been tough to pounce and under natural lights, it’s not expected to change a whole lot. At 10 AM, there are chance of rain, hence there could be interruptions. The temperature will be around 31 degrees with the humidity in the mid-60s.

Playing Combinations

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

For the Patriots, Evin Lewis has been the lone ranger with 223 runs at an average of 27.87. Chris Lynn looked good in the last game, but a strike-rate of 107.43 doesn’t justify his potential by any means. Denesh Ramdin and Ben Dunk have scored, but they haven’t accelerated well as well.

There’s not much to talk about the rest of the batsmen. In the bowling department, Rayad Emrit has been the standout with 10 wickets at an economy of 6.10. Jon-Russ Jaggesar has six wickets with Imran Khan, Sheldon Cottrell and Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir, who all have five wickets each.

Probable XI

Evin Lewis, Chris Lynn, Joshua Da Silva, Ben Dunk, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Colin Archibald, Rayad Emrit (C), Alzarri Joseph, Imran Khan, Sheldon Cottrell, Jon-Russ Jaggesar

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Knights’ batting is in terrific form. Darren Bravo is their leading run-scorer with 239 runs at an average of 47.80. Lendl Simmons and Tim Seifert also have over 200 runs, but it’s Pollard, who has delivered the killer blows. The TKR captain has 207 runs at a tremendous strike-rate of 204.95.

In the bowling area, there’s no standout performer. Dwayne Bravo in their leading wicket-taker with nine wickets. Khary Pierre has seven wickets. Sikandar Raza and Fawad Ahmed have five wickets each. Pravin Tambe has also done well in the limited chances he has gotten in the T20 league.

Probable XI

Lendl Simmons, Tion Webster, Tim Seifert (wk), Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard (C), Dwayne Bravo, Sikandar Raza, Akeal Hosein, Khary Pierre, Fawad Ahmed, Jayden Seales
