CPL 2021: Team-wise one player to watch out for in the tournament

The 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will be played from 26th August 2021 to 15th September 2021. As always, the CPL will throw a lot of surprises, the cricketing action will make us sit at the edge of our seats, and provide us a lot of spine-tingling moments through the course of the competition. All the 6 participating teams have talented players in their arsenal, and these teams will surely be looking to grab the CPL trophy this year. From experienced veterans like Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo to upcoming talents like Haider Ali and Oshane Thomas, the CPL has players with varying degrees of experience. The 2021 edition of the CPL will surely be a fun-filled ride, and the fortunes in the tournament will swing wildly as well. On that note, let us take a look at one player to watch out for from each team in the 2021 edition of the CPL. St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots- Evin Lewis Evin Lewis of West Indies hits. The left-hander is powerful, and can easily destroy any bowling attack when he is in the mood. Lewis has been in scintillating form in the T20Is he has played in 2021. The left-hander has scored 384 runs in T20Is he has played for the West Indies this year and has scored his runs at an average of 32.00 and a whopping strike rate of 164.80 as well. Even in the 2020 edition of the CPL, the 29-year-old was the 6th highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassed 235 runs, and scored them at an average in excess of 25. Lewis will definitely play a key role for St.Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 2021 edition of the CPL. St.Lucia Kings – Faf du Plessis Faf du Plessis. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Faf du Plessis will be leading the St.Lucia Kings side in the 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The South African was in scintillating form in the 2021 edition of the IPL that took place earlier this year and decimated bowling attacks with the willow in hand for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side. The South African willow wielder was the 3rd highest run-scorer in the 2021 IPL season at the time of suspension and plundered 320 runs in the 7 innings that he played. He averaged 64.00 in the competition and scored his runs at an excellent strike rate of 145.45. Apart from this, du Plessis is also one of the best fielders in T20 cricket and can throw himself on the field and save precious runs for his side. The 37-year-old will be looking to make meaningful contributions with the willow in the 2021 edition of the CPL when he takes guard for the St.Lucia Kings outfit. Trinbago Knight Riders – Kieron Pollard Kieron Pollard. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Kieron Pollard showcased his prowess with the bat in hand in the encounter against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side in the 2021 edition of the IPL. On 1st May 2021, the big right-hander rendered the MS Dhoni-led CSK side clueless, smashed a sensational 87* off 34 deliveries, and helped the Rohit Sharma-led outfit chase down a target of 219 set by the ‘Men in Yellow’. Pollard is a cricketer who is useful in every department of the game. He can hammer bowling attacks with the willow, he can stem the flow of runs and scalp crucial wickets with the ball, and there is arguably no one in modern-day cricket who can beat Pollard’s prowess on the field. Pollard scored 207 runs in 7 innings in CPL 2020 and scored his runs at an excellent average of 51.75, and a staggering strike rate of 204.95. Pollard is vastly experienced and has been a part of the CPL since its inception. He has played 81 matches and has scored close to 2000 runs at an average of 37.09. He has also scalped 55 wickets with the ball in hand as well. Needless to say, if Pollard fires, then the other teams will have a lot of worries to deal with. Jamaica Tallawahs – Andre Russell Andre Russell. (Photo Source: Twitter) Andre Russell is a cricketer who is proficient in every department of the game. He is a player who is hugely experienced in T20 cricket and has been a part of several T20 leagues in the world. Russell can strike lusty blows with the willow once he gets his eye in and is also a bowler who is skiddy off the surface and can surprise the batsman with the pace and bounce that he generates as well. Russell has blown hot and cold in the recent past in T20 cricket. In his last 5 T20 innings, the big-hitting right-hander has not gone past the 30-run mark. In the 2020 edition of the CPL, Russell plundered 222 runs at an average of 44.40 and a strike rate in excess of 140. However, he has not been able to set the stage on fire off late with the willow in hand. Russell will surely be looking for a reversal of fortunes when he walks out for his side in the 2021 edition of the CPL. Guyana Amazon Warriors – Imran Tahir Imran Tahir. Even at the age of 42, Tahir can still bamboozle batsmen with the turn he generates off the surface as well as the loop he gets in the air as well. The leg spinner was the 3rd highest wicket-taker in the 2020 edition of the CPL, and scalped 15 wickets in 11 innings, at an average of just 15.93. Even in The Hundred tournament this year, the leg spinner picked up a five-wicket haul as well and flummoxed the batsmen with his guile and clever variations. Tahir is a bowler who can stem the flow of runs and can also put an end to flourishing partnerships as well. And finally, do watch out for his celebratory run after he scalps a wicket! Barbados Royals – Jason Holder Jason Holder. (Photo by Kai Schwoerer/Getty Images) Jason Holder can get the ball to move both ways upfront, can use his tall frame to generate extra bounce off the surface, and is an asset for his side. Holder was the second-highest wicket-taker for the Barbados Royals in the 2020 edition of the CPL. The right-arm pacer scalped 10 wickets in the previous edition of the tournament and picked them up at an economy rate of less than 7 and a strike rate of just 19.80. Holder is an experienced campaigner in the CPL, has featured in 61 matches in the tournament, and has prized out 49 willow wielders. He is currently the 12th highest wicket-taker in CPL history. Holder can also score useful runs with the bat as well. The right-handed batsman has scored 687 runs in the CPL and has scored his runs at a strike rate in excess of 135. If Holder can fire with the ball in hand, then he can surely set the CPL on fire and make the lives of the batsmen difficult.
