IPL 2023: 5 players who underperformed in IPL 2022 but went for big bucks in auction
Despite their dismal outings in the last installment of the league, they got picked up by the franchises at a colossal amount.
3. Shivam Mavi
Noticing Shivam Mavi’s dismal outings in the last season, Kolkata Knight Riders cut ties with him. At the mega auction held in February, the youngster hit the headlines for getting sold at INR 7.25 crore to KKR. However, with only five scalps in six games at a horrendous economy of 10.31, the bowler struggled to deliver cheerful moments to the franchise.
This mini-auction, he again went under the hammer and attracted bids from Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and his former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After an intense battle among four franchises, the defending champions Gujarat Titans signed him at INR 6 crore.
Despite delivering a poor show with the ball in the last edition, the pacer received a lucrative deal in the event. In the forthcoming tournament, the Titans will expect him to be impactful for them by hunting batters with his lethal pace. Recently, he also did well for his domestic team Uttar Pradesh in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 and Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23.
