IPL 2023: 5 players who underperformed in IPL 2022 but went for big bucks in auction
Despite their dismal outings in the last installment of the league, they got picked up by the franchises at a colossal amount.
1. Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran is known for being a devastating batter in T20Is and domestic leagues. With 1427 runs in 72 T20Is, at a strike rate of 129.02, the left-handed batter has been a fine finisher for the West indies. Talking about his IPL numbers, the West Indies batter has been spectacular with 912 runs in 47 contests, at a magnificent strike rate of 151.24.
Last season, the Caribbean cricketer played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after getting sold at INR 10.75 crore at the 2022 auction. With the bat, he strived to don the role of a finisher notching up 306 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 144.34. However, his inconsistent batting figures cost him as he couldn’t find a spot in SRH’s retention list released in November.
Getting snubbed by the SRH, the fearless batter participated in the IPL mini-auction 2023 at his base price of INR 2 crore. Hearing his name at the event, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) didn’t hesitate in splurging a colossal amount on the 27-year-old Pooran. Investing INR 16 crore in him, the franchise tried to boost his confidence for the next season.
