IPL 2023: Best XI from sold players in mini auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction saw all of the 10 franchises finalizing their squads ahead of the new season. The franchises spent INR 167 Crores to buy 80 players in the bidding arena of the 405 players registered officially. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought the most number of players, having acquired the services of as many as 13 players. The side also had the highest remaining purse heading into the auction with 42.25 Cr. to spend. There were quite a few players who ignited a bidding war as Englishman Sam Curran was acquired for a whopping INR 18.5 crore. Having witnessed the glitz and glamour of the auction filled with drama and action, teams have done a fair job in rejigging their sides in order to bolster them ahead of the sixteenth edition. With 80 players sold to the respective franchises, here is a list of the- Best XI from sold players in the mini auction- 1. Mayank Agarwal Mayank Agarwal was released by Punjab Kings in the players retention in November prior to the auction. The former Punjab skipper is all set to don the colours of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the new season as the franchise secured his services for a massive 8.25 crores. Pigeonholed as a limited-overs specialist, Mayank has the potential to get the vital runs and stitch partnerships which could hand advantage to the side. In the previous season with Punjab, he could not particularly bat in his designated spot and had to come down the order which clearly impacted his performances. Now, having joined the SRH side, Mayank will certainly look to overcome his failures of being unable to remain consistent in the shortest format. Moreover, he also brings in leadership skills to the table and Sunrisers could ponder over the idea of having him in that role. 2. Cameron Green The batting all-rounder from Australia earned big bucks when Mumbai Indians procured the services of Green at a whopping INR 17.50 Cr. His name sparked off an exciting bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, as both sides were swiftly lifting their paddles for the Aussie youngster. Eventually, Mumbai took the lead and made a swoop for the player as he ended up being the second most expensive player in the IPL auction. Featuring in 21 T20 outings, he has amassed 245 runs with two half-centuries at an impressive strike rate of 137.64. Adding to this, he has also taken the international circuit by storm by racking up five wickets in his eight innings and has garnered a lot of attention following his impressive performances this year in T20Is. Five-time IPL winners, Mumbai are known to groom players well and Green in the given ambience could flourish into becoming one of the finest cricketers. His addition in the squad undoubtedly will help the side heading into the new season and will hope to better their previous season’s record. 3. N Jagadeesan (wk) One of the biggest names in India's domestic cricket circuit at the moment is that of Narayan Jagadeesan. Off late, the batter has been terrific with the willow after he broke the internet with his phenomenal outings at the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year. Bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 90 Lakhs, his sizzling form could help the side change its trajectory from having a topsy-turvy season last edition to a dominating one in 2023. 4. Manish Pandey Manish Pandey boasts a plethora of experience of playing in the lucrative T20 league and will now represent Delhi Capitals for the new season. The franchise shelled out INR 2.40 crores to grab the services of the experienced lad. Last season, the batter featured for Lucknow Super Giants and played only six games for the side wherein he could only score a total of 88 runs with a top knock of 38 runs in one game. Due to his underwhelming performances, LSG decided to let go off the player ahead of the auction. The veteran batter has mustered 3648 runs at an average of 29.90 having played 160 matches in the tournament thus far. Manish will no doubt look to play an integral role in the side and help attain the vital runs coming from the top-order. 5. Ben Stokes (c) The Englishman attracted interest from multiple franchises after the star all-rounder played a important role in the T20 World Cup winning campaign earlier this year in Australia. RCB, RR and LSG began the initial rounds of raising the paddles during the auction before Chennai Super Kings (CSK) joined the fray and eventually landed Stokes for INR 16.25 crore. Interestingly, he became the joint third most expensive player bought in the auction along with South Africa’s Chris Morris. Stokes scored an unbeaten 52 runs to guide the Three Lions to triumph in the summit clash of T20 WC against Pakistan at the iconic MCG in the marquee event. The right-arm medium pacer also scalped six wickets at a stunning economy of 6.79 in the tournament. Joining the CSK side, Stokes adds lot of fire power coming down the middle order alongside the likes of Ravindra Jadeja. The Chennai franchise will surely look to add threat with the use of Stokes in the side in the forthcoming season. 6. Jason Holder The tall Caribbean lad will join Rajasthan Royals for a sum of INR 5.75 crore in the forthcoming season. Following a below par season with the Lucknow Super Giants, the franchise decided to part ways with the all-rounder. Holder scored 58 runs at an average of only 9.67, and though he did pick up 14 wickets, his overall economy rate of 9.67 made his performances seem ordinary. The 31-year-old has clipped 51 scalps at an average of 26.86 which includes the best bowling figures of 5/27 in T20Is. The tall seaming all-rounder has the potential to add threat both with the bat and with the ball and the Royals will hope he proves to be decisive for them in the crunch moments. Holder can be a troublesome player with the ball as he provides the extra bounce due to his height and his hard-hitting abilities too cannot be taken out of the equation. 7. Sam Curran Sam Curran became the most expensive pick in an IPL auction when Punjab Kings procured the services of the star Englishman for a massive INR 18.5 crore. The English all-rounder relished a terrific outing in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022 as he was adjudged the Player of the Tournament. In the marquee event held Down Under, he collected 13 wickets which also included a fifer in the very first match against Afghanistan. Therefore, it was not much of a surprise that numerous franchises were interested to make a swoop for the left hander. Adding to this, the star all-rounder marks his return to the Punjab franchise after his maiden season in the IPL back in 2019. The southpaw has played 91 matches and has scalped 91 wickets at an economy of 8.79 with best bowling figures of 5/25 in the IPL thus far. Unadkat has played for numerous teams over the years and has garnered massive experience of playing with high profile cricketers be it in RCB or KKR in his previous stints. Speaking about his domestic cricket run, Unadkat picked 19 wickets in 10 games as the Saurashtra captain led his side to Vijay Hazare Trophy title this year. He will now look to add his experience to his new side and be lethal in the death overs and early on to get some movement. 9. Mukesh Kumar Mukesh Kumar was signed by Delhi Capitals for INR 5.5 crore though he entered the auction at a base price of INR 20 lakh. Kumar has made rapid strides in domestic cricket with his good lengths and ability to move the ball off the pitch. The 29-year-old pacer was included in the ODI Series squad against South Africa but did not feature in the contest. With his disciplined line and length, he can deceive the rival batter from scoring big but he will also be put to test in the shortest format along with the top players. In the T20 format, he has relished scalping 25 wickets at an economy rate of 7.20. It would be interesting to see how the franchise uses his services ahead of the new season. 10. Mayank Markande Sunrisers Hyderabad procured the services of Mayank Markande at his base price of INR 50 lakhs. The former Mumbai Indians’ spinner is now set to don the orange colours of the Sunrisers next season. Using flight and drift, the spinner has the potential to deceiving rival batters during the crunch moments of the game. In the T20 format, the spinner has played 55 matches of which he has picked up 56 wickets with his best bowling figures being 4/4. His last T20 match came against Himachal Pradesh as he ended up leaking the most runs (19 runs) off just a single over. Despite this, he could come in handy for the side and trap the batters into mistiming the big shots and handing SRH the edge they would require. 11. Amit Mishra The veteran leggie has plenty of experience of playing in the cash-rich league and despite his age, he could still prove to be lethal for his side. Amit Mishra became the oldest player to feature in the auction this season and is set to don the outfit of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 2023 season. The franchise acquired the services of the leggie at his base price of INR 50 lakh at the mini-auction. Turning the ball coupled with decent flight is something that can bamboozle the rival batters and Amit has used this to his advantage during his stint in IPL. The crafty leg spinner has featured in 154 outings in his IPL career thus far and has added 166 wickets to his name. It is worth mentioning that he has the most hat-tricks in the history of IPL as he has achieved the feat on three different occasions in -2008, 2011, and 2013.
